Can you believe that the first month of 2016 has already gone by? Boy has it been a ride. I moved to NYC, started culinary school, joined a new gym, taught myself the MTA system in NYC (with a little help from my phone & a friend), made new friends, and spent a wonderful week with my Mom & weekend with my parents in the city.

I’m making it a priority while I’m here for school to find all of the top gluten free restaurants and bakeries in NYC. Most of them will be highlighted in my top picks post every month, but I’m also keeping a running list

Below is what’s at the top of my list for the month.

Laughing Tree Organics Citrus Mint Foaming Facial Cleanser: I made sure to stock up on my facial products before I moved as this is sold locally on the North Shore of MA! However, you can also make purchases online. The cleanser is light, but still feels like you are getting a deep clean.

GF Fried Chicken and Waffles at Friedman’s Restaurant: I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that this place offered gluten free fried chicken and waffles. I mean, there is no way I wasn’t going to try this place my first week in the city. The atmosphere is rustic and cool, and we sat comfortably at the high-top table by the door. The GF chicken and waffles were out of this world and the side of sweet potato fries with blue cheese aioli was delicious.

Hu Kitchen: Thanks to my good friend Emily, I tried Hu Kitchen for lunch one day and now I’m absolutely obsessed. Everything served there is gluten free and dairy free, but don’t let those labels scare you. Every bowl, salad, dessert, etc. is full of flavor! It’s so nice to be able to stop somewhere and not have to go through every menu item until you find some that is GF. It’s safe to say I’ll be a regular here.

By the Way Bakery Muffins! I couldn’t decide on one flavor, so I ordered three different muffins. They were really fresh, and there were also brownies and cakes on display. Can’t wait until I have a reason to order a whole GF cake! Plus, they are in my neighborhood on the UES. This is good and dangerous at the same time because I’ll be there all the time!
