I had the pleasure last night of being able to be in the presence of some amazing pink warriors at the Miss Pink Pageant 2015. If you aren’t familiar with the organization, Miss Pink Pageant is a non-profit organization that started in 2010 as an annual benefit event that celebrates the life of breast cancer survivors. The pageant itself this year, took place at the beautiful Danversport Yacht Club.
You can imagine attending an event like this is definitely emotional – hearing how this challenge in their life has affected them and their family is truly moving. These women are extremely inspiring in so many ways, and have such a strong message to share. Although they are up there talking about their story, they are also speaking to the wider community of women that are currently experiencing cancer.
Another part of the event that I found very well-done, was the educational aspect. A lot of the speeches touched on the research that is being done, and the importance of self examination and how critical it is for women to get a mammogram once a year. It’s your health and body, so take care of it.
As I was listening to these women’s stories about how they have survived cancer or are still fighting cancer I couldn’t help but reflect a little on my own life. It’s a good reminder that I can’t take anything or anyone for granted these days. It’s amazing how the little pieces of drama just don’t seem as important anymore once you hear these stories.
What’s great about this organization is I know exactly where my donation is going to. All of the proceeds from the event go right back into the community. I’m already looking forward to next year, and I hope I see you there too. Lets continue to raise awareness.
