What comes to mind when you hear the words “juicing,” “juice cleanse” or “I’m on a cleanse?” I’m sure most of you didn’t even say anything, but rather just rolled your eyes. I use to be one of those people. I didn’t really get the whole juicing phase, I was too lazy to clean a juicer, and honestly, buying juice can be really expensive.

Well I’m here today to tell you that juicing provides results in a variety of ways. Yes, the first result people want from juicing is to lose weight, and yes, you will lose weight by drinking juice because you aren’t eating that pan of brownies on the counter. But I found through experience that juicing provides a lot of other benefits other than just weight loss.

Now I won’t drink juice for 5-7 days straight. Instead, every month or so, or when I feel like I need to, I’ll drink juice for two or three days straight.

  1. Upset stomach: Ever get an upset stomach, but not sure what is bothering you? The best way to figure it out is to eliminate different ingredients. Juicing allows you to bring your stomach back to almost 0. Once you’ve cleaned your system of what’s bothering you, you are able to add in items slowly to see what you can tolerate.
  2. Bloated: We all get bloated once in a while, whether it’s something we ate that didn’t agree with us, or maybe it’s because we overdid it one weekend. It’s an uncomfortable feeling that is really hard to get rid of. For example, after my surgery, I just went crazy and ate everything in site – I couldn’t workout, so I decided I’d just indulge instead! Anyways, after a few weeks, I felt awful and I was tired all the time, which is so unlike me. In addition to drinking lots of water, I found that by having two to three juices a day over a couple of days really helped relieve the bloating feeling I was having.
  3. Sick/Boost Your Immune System: Got a cold? Drink a juice that includes ginger, lemon and vitamin C and A. From oranges, to beets, to kale to carrots, there are a lot of fruits and vegetables out there that can help you boost your immune system. Of course, if you are hacking up a lung, you should probably see your doctor.
  4. Clearer skin: Remember the rumor that your face will reflect what you eat? Well for people like me, it’s actually true. When I stray from my regular eating routine for more than a few days, my face definitely shows it. That doesn’t mean you can’t indulge or treat yourself, but juicing helps you flush all of that out of your system.

Of course I’m not an expert in the juicing field, but these are just a few alternatives to help when you aren’t feeling like yourself or need a little boost.

Where to get juice? There are a lot of juice bars out there (where, I’m not exactly sure, that’s what google is for), but my sister got me obsessed with going to WholeFood’s juice bar. But to my surprise the other day, I noticed that WholeFoods has a pre-pressed juice area. Juices for only $3.99 that I could grab and enjoy over the next few days. And I didn’t have to do any of the clean up!
