Fuel Up with Health Warrior Chia Bars

Years ago, I never use to eat before a workout because I thought that it would bother my stomach, but what I found was that I wasn’t performing my best during my workouts. So for one week, I decided to eat a power snack before I went to the gym and by doing so, I felt more energized. Especially when you go right from work to the gym, you need a little extra boost to make it to dinner. Now, I never workout without fueling up before hand.

One myth about working out that I’ve heard from people is that if you eat before a workout, you won’t burn as many calories. For those who follow diet plans where you count your calories, when it comes to working out, you have to look at the bigger picture. Yes, if you don’t have a snack before you workout, you won’t have to burn off “those calories,” however, if you know you are going to workout that day, your power snack should be factored into your overall calorie count for the day.

As someone who typically works out 5-6 times a week, I look at food differently. I see it as an energy source. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a great burger and fries, but for the days I know I’m working out, I make sure to eat a lot of protein and healthy fats. Yes I said fat – not all fats are bad.

A power snack to me could be many things – such as an apple, a banana, two hard boiled eggs, gf rice cakes and almond butter, an avocado, yogurt and fruit, gf oatmeal, etc. But my favorite new find is a Chia Bar from Health Warrior. They have a variety of flavors to choose from – my favorites include apple cinnamon, coconut and the newly improved coffee – now made with dark chocolate. Hats off to the people at Health Warrior for this updated flavor – it is absolutely delicious.

All bars are between 100 – 110 calories and packed with omega- 3, protein and fiber. They are also gluten, soy and GMO free. Wondering where you can find a Health Warrior Bar in your area? Check out the location finder for a store near you.

Since I’m still recovering from my shoulder surgery, I’m not able to workout like I was before – but I’ve been trying to get out for a walk every chance I get. Although it’s not a 4 mile run like I’m use to, I’m trying to do what I can until I’m fully healed.

My friend and I enjoyed our bars this morning before we headed out for a walk.

If you’ve tried a bar from the line, what’s your favorite flavor?
