Oh how I love snacks – I always look forward to my mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.

I’m guessing most of you reading this post feel the same way, but I have a question for you. Do you find yourself reaching for the same snack everyday? I mean don’t get me wrong, I love a good apple here and there, but I need to spice it up :). So I’m here to share with you 5 “Out of the Box” snacks that really in my opinion aren’t that “Outside the Box.” Now you may be scratching your head thinking, “what is Delia talking about?” Well, I want to bring back some simple snack ideas that at first may seem strange, but really are just a few different ideas to roll with.

Oatmeal and a Chopped Apple

Heat up some oatmeal and toss in a chopped apple. Feeling extra daring, add a few teaspoons of cinnamon. What’s also great about this snack is it can be tailored for those who are gluten free.

Chopped Tomato and Avocado on Toast

First pop your piece of toast into the toaster and get that crisped up (also can be GF toast). Then grab yourself a tomato and avocado, and chop both of them up. Mix the pieces together in a bowl and toss in as little or as much salt/pepper as you’d like. Once your toast is done, spread the avocado and tomato mixture on top.

Edamame

This involves a little more prep time if you are planning on eating this at the office, but cook up some edamame for a quick and healthy snack. What’s also great about these little bites is that you can add a few different toppings – maybe keep it simple with a little sea salt or maybe a few splashes of hot sauce!

Kale Chips

And I’m not talking about the ones you buy at the store. This also involves a little more prep time, but it’s totally worth it. Wash your kale and spread on a cookie sheet. Lightly sprinkle some olive oil and sea salt over the kale and mix around with you hands to make sure all of the leaves are evenly coated. Bake on 350 for about 10-15 minutes.

Rice Cakes with Peanut Butter and Cinnamon 

This is the second time I’ve mentioned cinnamon – lately this has been my go-to ingredient for spicing up any snack or meal, and I even use it in my ice coffee since I don’t like to use any sweetener. Anyways, this is probably one of my favorite snacks. I know the rice cakes get a back rep as being the “diet food,” but when you top it with peanut butter, cinnamon and even some walnuts or apple slices, you’ve got a perfect little snack. What’s also delicious is the Apple Spiced flavor rice cakes – although these have a little bit more sugar in them than the regular ones, they are still a nice little treat!

And lastly (okay I know I said only 5, but this is the best one) you can make some of Dee’s No-Bake Protein Balls.
